Although the makeup of this product changes, I've always found it to be mellow and flavorful without any of the sweet or sugary stuff that a lot of cheap tobacco often contains. A full pound lasts a casual smoker a very long time, as well.

Quality tobacco at an affordable price. Have been using this as my primary tobacco for 3 years or so. Always different, but for me that element of surprise adds to the purchase.

this is my first experience smoking a pipe and I bought a pound of this mix. the smell is great and happy i made the purchase. I am curious to see how long it will last. as a cig smoker...a carton would last me just shy of two weeks. I am hoping that with a pipe, i cut down somewhat and that my purchase will last a month or more. Can anyone out there tell me how long, roughly, 16oz of tobacco lasts for them(and how many times they smoke a pipe a day).

Works good for me. Great price and smokes cool and burns even. Only problem I have had is that I have found "twisty-tie" wires in the bags. Two bags so far. According to Mr. Gates, it appears that they got some tobacco from another distributor than normal and that could be the problem. I will still continue to order.

Well, how too review this one?? The quality of the tobacco is very good. Packs and burns well. As stated in previous reviews, one you'll like, next one...you just don't know, it's a grab bag. But you can always expect a good quality smoke.

I like a variety of flavors and blends. I normally have no less than 20 blends in my stash, from high dollar tins for my Peterson's to cheap OTC for my cobs and everything in between. If you like variety of good quality tobacco,(much better than OTC blends) from fruity aromatics to full blown Latakia and Perique, at a great value, this is the way to go. I will definitely keep this in stock. At this price, there's no need to shed a tear when you have to waste 1/2 a bowl.

OK, I'll tell YOU, but don't tell anyone else, right? This is probably the best buy anywhere. That said, there are a couple things you should be made aware of. You'll probably never get the same blend twice, because every batch is a happy accident. That said, I'll add that I've been buying "Best of the Rest" for years, and I have NEVER been disappointed; it's always mild, always good. Just . . . well, this last time: it was better than good; it was SUPERB! I wish I'd ordered more.

This is the BEST. My husband (the one who uses it) is VERY happy with this tobacco. It smokes easy, doesn't burn and is easy on the nose (in the house). I have been buying this for several months now and am still pleased. I would definitely recommend this to others.

I ordered my standby, Captain Black from here about the first week of March. Also ordered a pound of their Best of The Rest for the 1st time to see what it would smoke like. And the price was a great deal also. I can say that whatever they blended that day and shipped, that it is an excellent smoke! I know that I will buy more from them and hope it is always like the one mix I received, but knowing that they're going to be different from one batch to the next, i don't believe you'll go too wrong over the long run if consistently purchasing this deal. Can always mix down with other tobaccos if a little stout! Have a hand carved Meerschaum coming from Turkey that I'm looking forward to fill a few bowls of this mixture with! Great deal, fast shipping, excellent service! Can't go wrong here for the money!!

There should be a separate purchase listing if the mixtures are going to contain them.
Mine came as a wonderful blend of burly and Virginia with just a touch of Oriental.
A bit light but comes in handy when I'm feeling like a cut might be necessary for some of my other full strength recipe's.

Difficult to review as each and every unit, by the very nature of its creation, will be different. The batch that I received smells heavily of cherry with hints of Perique(maybe?) and Latakia(maybe?). The blend packed and lit fine. But, the taste is sour, pungent. . . with a cherry overlay. . .nondescript really and more harsh than expected with some noticeable bite. I am mixing this batch down with some Red Virginia and Sweet Virginia and it seems to be only slightly more palatable. I'm not sure I will ever get through the whole batch. Anyone purchasing Best of the Rest needs to understand that it is like a grab-bag, something like the old "Let's Make a Deal" show. . . oftentimes, a hit; occasionally, a Zonk!. Even though the price is reasonable, I would rather pay a little more and know what I am getting. Overall, an experiment. . . I tried it once; I will not order it again.

I have been smoking this tobacco for over 3 years now and love the surprises. I have never been disappointed and consider this well above any drug store brand I have tried over the years. I just hope it never dries up, the savings allow me to have a special blend for the morning pipe and coffee routine. Always fast and quality service from P&C.

This is, simply put, the best value on the internet for the serious pipe smoker. I always have a pipe lit and I go through a lot of tobacco. "Best of the Rest" is an affordable and aromatic way to save a few bucks. Highly recommended.

I've been buying the "best of the rest" for going on 2 years now with only one batch that was harsh. Overall, the flavor and smoothness of this item has been pretty consistent. It has become my main tobacco...which leaves me enough change in my pocket to sample some of their other fine tobaccos.

This is my 2nd order of this Tobacco and it is a great smoke. The price is definitely reasonable and i smoke it daily. Smokes very well and offers a change bowl to bowl.

This is (or at least the packages I got are) a dark mixture, very fine cut, with a light hint of vanilla and cherry. A very sweet-smelling mild smoke, certainly comparable to much more expensive blends. I've had two pipe smokers approach me to ask what I was smoking, and that never happens with regular cherry blend. So overall a great value.

This is a solid product. I bet the flavor changes from batch to batch, but i've only ordered once so far. Great flavor, great for blending. The mix that i got has a ton of bite to it, that's the only issue with this batch

The tobacco I got smells like woodland scent candles but when it is smoked it tastes vaguely of perfume and coconut and is extremely nutty. I consider it to be on the mild side. Quite nice! I will order more. I wonder what it will taste like next time?

Always good. I am on a limited budget(like most of us nowadays) and find this allows me to smoke a top notch tobacco at a reasonable price.

Price is cheap , tobacco is sweet nice , good quality for that price better than many other brand .

I really like this stuff with its odd smell. somehow a combination of leafs and grasses on the ground at a rainy day in fall, and it's somehow sweet. I use them to roll cigarette.

A great value and always a quality blend. I don't smoke my pipe on a regular basis, but when I pick it up I enjoy it. It has no bite and I love the aroma. A pound lasts me quite a while, so I vaccum seal smaller amounts.

I am a long time pipe smoker and have tried most of the brands out there. Best of the rest is as good as any and the price is right! If you're paying a premium price for a name brand I suggest you try Best of the Rest. You will not be disapointed.
