There's something about Carter Hall that has me completely hooked. This is just a simple, great tobacco that you can smoke all day long. I love this stuff!
My Grandpa's Tobacco

Just as the title implies, I searched all around, trying as many plain tobaccos as I could until I stumbled across a picture of my grandpa, sitting in a large armchair, wearing a large foam cowboy hat, and pipe in hand. It was then I spied a large tobacco tin sitting next to him that gave me the key to his delightful smelling tobacco. As you can probably tell by now, I got into pipes to try and replicate my late grandpas atmosphere he had about him, so for me this is more memorable than anything. As for the tobacco itself, it is nice and plain and can be enjoyed any time of the day. For me it seems to pack, light well, and needs minimal relights. I have not experienced any bite or bitter flavor, even down to the last bit in the bottom. If you want an enjoyable, worry-free, clean smoke, it wouldn't hurt to give Carter Hall a try.

Great classic tobacco. I love the smell from the pouch... I could breathe that all day. Nice basic blend.

I just love this tobacco plain and simple. Burns great, smells good, tastes good and no bite at all. Would be ordering a lot more of this stuff

I love latakia in the winter. But in this spring/summer heat, my tastes shift and theres just something about the nuttiness of burley in a cob pipe that makes burley blends better for this time of year. This is a cheap burley blend that left a bad taste on my tongue and at first I hated it. But the more I smoked, The more I enjoyed. And now, it's one of my go-to blends for when I don't want anything too complex. Everyone's tastes differ, so you won't know if you like by reading reviews. For the price, add it to your next order. If you're disappointed, toss it in your tackle box and wait. It'll be there when you need it.

As I feel it's unnecessary to explain anything other than good, bad or ok due to my taste will vary from yours, this rates a very good for me

Carter Hall is my favorite OTC that I have tried so far. Nothing fancy. I detect a kind of berry taste, but that may be just me. Tobacco is very dry and will burn very, very hot if you aren't careful.

I've been smoking a pipe for a few years now and I've been content with my Nat Sherman blends, but my girlfriend wants me to find the tobacco that reminds her of her great grand pappy. So, I've been doing a circuit of the OTC Aros to see what I can find. Carter Hall is not the one she remembers, but she didn't mind the room note. For my part, I tried it in a couple of different briars that I reserve for aromatics and a clay pipe, I was unimpressed. Upon reading some reviews suggesting that it is best from a cob, I decided to try that. Boy, does that make a difference. I can't explain the physics of it, but the cob really opens up the tobacco and makes it a very pleasant smoke. I dry it for about 10 minutes and I get a cool, flavorful and fragrant smoke. Of course, smoking my cob makes me long for the front porch of a cabin by a creek, but I guess that's my problem.

Nothing special here, just good old Burley tobacco. Always keep a pouch around, as it's great for the first smoke of the day in a corn cob pipe.

The flavor first hits like its going to taste a bit like chemicals but then it just drops down into an interesting flavor. I am new to pipe tobacco but so far I really enjoy this brand. There was some bite, but I'm still a newbie.

Had a lot of high expectations. Saw reviews and expected great things. Tobacco was really dry when it arrived, had a bit of bite, could not dicern a room note, no others to comment. Stayed lit, mostly. I will take another stab, I may have had an off day. I bought 2 packages, hope it gets better.
perfect with a cob

I have read in forums that this was best with a Missouri Meerschaum, and I couldn't agree more.

Iv'e been smoking CH for more than 50 years and I still find it's complexity most enjoyable. It's complexity is in it's simplicity. Just an easy smoking tobacco that tastes great and burns great. It is the most forgiving blend for the novice pipe smoker and a most satisfying smoke for the well experienced. It gets better as the years pass. Not the tobacco, but because of the smoker. I have greater respect for it now because I'm older now. Carter Hall never gets old. Absolutely best in a corn cob.

I recently purchased a pouch to try out some of the cheaper OTC brands. I was delighted to find out how smooth and clean this tobacco is throughout the bowl. I am purchasing a bulk supply to keep stored at my beach house as my "fishing" blend. Would have given a 5 but it got a little lost in my briar... I recommend a cob!

When I was a boy Carter Hall was on the shelves of every drug store in my hometown. 60 years later it's as popular as ever. Great tobacco taste and a nice room note without perfumes. My go-to tobacco.

I have smoked this for 45 years; my hands-down favorite. Smooth, cool, flavorful, mild and very easy to enjoy.

This is the blend that actually gave me interest in pipe smoking. Unlike many drugstore blends, you don't have to be extremely careful with how you smoke it; it's easy to light and has a rich flavor, starting off light and nutty, but deeper in the bowl giving off rich chocolates, natural woodiness, and of course, the nut gets richer.
