A rich blend for late in the day. It is a slow, lasting smoke. Just prior to packing, expensive Perique tobacco is added to enhance the bouquet.

Surprisingly strong and smooth both. Burned well. It had a light spiciness and a pleasant room note by my standards. Oddly the smell after burning in the pipe was the same as when I packed it in the pipe. I'm normally an aromatic Black Cavendish kind of guy but this flat out changed my mind about English blends. I REALLY liked this. I ended up buying more, so I'd rate it a buy.

I am new to pipe smoking and when I first opened the tin I was worried by the smell. However it was a great smoking tobacco and a little bolder smoke than Early Morning Pipe. I bought a tin of Night Cap, AMP and 965. I found them similar, with EMP being the most mellow. 965 and Night Cap are very similar and the only bad thing I have to say is that a full bowl will leave a bit of an unpleasant after taste.

This tobacco is amazing. I tried it because a guy at my local shop said every true pipe connoisseur has to have it. The smell in tin doesn't do it justice. It's fantastic once it gets burning. The room note is "nutty" and pleasing. The taste is fairly mild, with almost no bite. If you haven't smoke much other than aromatic blends, the nicotine may give you quite a buzz the first few times. It's a favorite among my friends now. I took the brunt of my buddy's smoke one night when he was trying it for the first time, and I fell asleep in a chair with my pipe dangling from my mouth. The stuff knocked me out, with the aid of a few beers and a few smoked bowls of my own. Great tobacco, always my last bowl of the night. BUY IT NOW!

The room note for this blend will not please all because of the Latakia. However, If you enjoy a wonderful smoke anytime of the day this is the blend for you.

Just love this tobacco! Burns great, no bite. After trying many, many, English blends I find this one to be complex and smooth. And Pipes and Cigars has the best customer service, prices and selection for all my pipe smoking needs. Shipping is fast!

Guess it may have a lot of nicotine, that's what I was really looking for, but I really didn't notice it (at least not as much as some reviewers - no lightheaded feelings, etc). Of course, I'm a reformed cigarette smoker; however, I haven't had a cigarette in over three months. Didn't really think much of the tin note, kind of smelled nasty to me but the room note wasn't as bad as I expected. Don't really know what to say about the taste. It was sort of nondescript. It wasn't bad but nothing really stood out. Last 1/3 of the bowl tasted harsh/burnt. I'll let it sit and see what I think in about another month. It was worth a try but not worth a second go.

The Danish blenders were doing ok with Nit4cap until about 2009, maybe a 4 star rating. Tee Nitecap coming out of the EU leave alot to be desired. Murray's UK blend is a solid 5+ star.
Orlik's Nitecap is a 3

first off, yes, this tobacco has a considerable amount of nicotine. half a bowl in and you'll feel it coming on something powerful. however, the taste, though rich, isn't slap-you-in-the-face-strong. it's not like some aromatics I've had that just seem to coat your palate for what seems like days. it's a rich creamy flavor. full and thick. balanced enough that no one flavor seems to stand out. I actually prefer the London mix myself just because I think it has a different range of discernible flavors and a wider flavor profile. maybe aging this on a shelf will add something to it. I enjoy going on casual walks around my neighborhood with my pipe after work, and I find that the flavors in this tobacco as well as the powerful nic hit, work very well when you are out and about like this. burns slow and cool to a fine white ash and very little to no dottle. def one of my favs and one ill always keep around

Nightcap has no bite, no burn, smokes well. Heavy nicotine a plus for me. I find the flavor a bit overbearing for my pallette. I have tried it in a few different style pipes, but have the same experience with this tobacco... just a bit too harsh for me. It is a good tobacco and deserves a chance in any smokers pipe... just not for me. I prefer the 965 hands down to the nightcap. I will give it 3 stars but the lower rating is simply a reflection of my taste and many english tobacco smokers will love this.

Review #1 Dunhill Night Cap. I must preface this review by saying I am returning to the pipe after a long, long layoff. I quit smoking, entirely, back in 1996. Back in the day this was one of my favorites and, it has held up well after that absence. It's got a great taste, smokes great throughout the bowl and pays off. A thoroughly joyful smoke. My only qualm is the BIG nick kick. I no longer smoke for the N, rather just for the plain enjoyment of it. If it weren't for the heavy N, I'd given it five stars! A classic!

An old favorite of mine, a bowl of Nightcap's a great way to end the day. Strong, rich, flavorful, fabulous companion to a fine cognac before retiring. A true Classic! 5 out of 5!

As you can tell from the other reviews, this is no lightweight. While round and full, it avoids the tarry pluminess you might think such a rich blend would produce. So while it looks like fruitcake it's more of a devil's food cake. Beware the high nicotine content, and enjoy a restful slumber.

Everything you have heard about this tobacco is the truth. This is one of the best I have had yet. This lives up to the name of Night Cap. Just smoked another bowl just now and it is something you want to smoke at night to unwind. Nice even smoke and I love the earthy taste to it. The nicotine in it is present so do not under estimate this blend. It is safe to say that I am a Dunhill fan. Can't wait to try the others. This is not for the light at heart. If you are serious about pipe smoking, then go for it. You will rest easy after smoking a bowl of this!!!!

Warning: If you are new to the pipe world, DO NOT try this first. Work your way up to this.

This is one of the many blends that are top of my list. GOOD JOB DUNHILL!

This is perhaps my favorite pipe tobacco of all time. That being said, it is not one to smoke every time there is a commercial break. This blend packs a serious punch, but has tremendous flavor. Nightcap is my favorite blend simply because it is best smoked when reflecting on the day or whatever subject is on your mind. If you are considering purchasing this tin, and it is in stock, don't hesitate. This is a blend to always keep on hand. You will not be disappointed!

Nightcap by Dunhill is a mix of various Virginias, and Latakia with a little Perique added just before packing. This is what I get when I smoke it; some of you may have gotten something totally different but, this is what I got.
o Room note: pungent, lusty, heady, sensual, musky, seductive.
o Taste: up front- earthy, truffle like, maybe portabella mushroom. Finish- slight hint of dark unsweet chocolate and dark coffee. No bite, even when smoked fast. The taste lingers all day. Nice with a sweet drink to bring out the chocolate and coffee left by the Virginia. Maybe an Iced mocha?
o From what I've read, Latakia is a type Oriental/Turkish tobacco that has been made by a process in which the tobacco leaves are initially sun cured then cured again by the smoke from burning aromatic woods, herbs and spices. This tobacco really stands out in this blend. Perique adds the earthiness I found when I tasted it. I believe it to be a pure Perique from Grand Point Louisiana, from Percy Martin's farm and not some wannabe Green River Burly processed in the same way. I can really taste the earthy/truffle of a true Perique. The Latakia and Perique meet together to form Nightcap's pungent sensuality. The Virginia takes the back seat to help mellow out the Latakia and Perique and imparts a very slight sweetness to it. That slight sweetness mixed with the Latakia and Perique creates a bitter chocholate, coffee ground finish.

I've smoking NightCap & Early Morning for 13 years and I still get excited about lighting up. Initially, I tried aromatics - which usually die of flavor halfway through the smoke. When I tried NightCap for the first time, I was hooked. The flavor burst of those first few puffs are second to none and they last all the way to the bottom - and actually increases in intensity as I get towards the bottom! My only grip is...they are usually sold out. *Ps....I wish they would bring back Apertif.
Well Done!

I am of the opinion that Orlik did a poor job verses Murray's on some of the Dunhill blends, especially 965, however as a long time Dunhill lover I feel strongly that Nightcap, EMP and London are as good or better than the Murray's incarnation. Nightcap, the Latakia heavy Dunhill offering is not a Lat bomb as it is complex with high quality Virginia's and just the right amount of Perique. Like many of the Dunhill blends, the visit from "Lady N" can be on the stronger side, but no where near some of the ropes, twists or plugs on the market. I do think that if you are a new pipe smoker or making your way from aromatics to English blends, EMP or London may be a better choice. Overall, Nightcap is a top quality blend.

Pungent aroma out of the tin.Packs and lights well.Perique comes to the fore only at the end of the bowl.Mild in flavors,Big on punch.Leaves a coolness in the mouth when pipe is set down for a breather. This lasts till well after the smoke has been finished.NO BITE no matter how hard you smoke this. One of my favorites.A bit more perique would be great.

I just finished another bowl of this, my new favorite tobacco, and I must say what a stellar blend. A strong tobacco, but with a dark and somewhat mild flavor that really grows on you after a long, thoughtful evening smoke. Night Cap is a very powerful smoke, in my opinion, that can leave you pleasantly buzzed for quite some time. I will be setting back several tins for aging, and to have around for many years to come.

This is some mighty powerful tobacco. I knew it was supposed to be a high octane (nicotine) and the first bowl proved to have a smooth flavor, okay aroma, and a fairly strong punch. The second bowl was consumed in its entirety from a Peterson apple with a wide, deep bowl. When my head started spinning I should have know to set the pipe down but I was reading a really good book and just kept puffin' along. First off I had difficulty standing up and then difficulty going to sleep. To top all of this off I had one of the weirdest dreams I've had in years!
Nightcap is a great tobacco but I suggest smoking it in small doses. :)
