Let me start by mentioning that the Joya de Nicaragua Antaño is my go-to cigar, as I love powerful, robust smokes. That said, I don’t often casually recommend them, as they can be a bit much. I’ve even had experienced full bodied lovers find them too strong, and they always say something like “I love the flavor and aroma.but…” Enter the Joya de Nicaragua Celebraciòn.
The Antaño is an all-Nicaraguan stick with an intense reddish Criollo ligero wrapper. JDN wanted to make another line with some kick, but without approaching that level of power. They used wrapper leaves from further down the plant that don’t have the raucous wallop of the Antaño’s, but have a similar core flavor. The result is the Joya de Nicaragua Celebraciòn, which is like an Antaño without the attitude. The flavor is very much like its big brother, but more subdued; great for when you want the flavor, but less power. Don’t be fooled, however, as this is still a rich and bold puro.
The construction is outstanding, and these cigars burn for a long time. The russet wrapper burns more evenly, as it is a bit thinner and less leathery. If an extra-fuerte is just too much, try the Joya de Nicaragua Celebraciòn. Sometimes compromise isn’t such a bad thing.
