Kevin Arthur Skraboly is a shining example of the growing number of very talented, but as yet little-known, American pipe carvers. Our blender, Russ had the pleasure of meeting Kevin at the 2009 Chicagoland pipe show and was struck by his unique-looking pipes bearing a distinct Danish/European influence. Not only that, but Kevin also makes pipes from some unusual woods, such as Lemon and Apricot.
Russ was also amazed by the reasonable pricing and strongly feels that as Kevin's reputation as a talented carver grows, doubts the pricing will stay quite so low considering each pipe's beauty.
Russ purchased a large volcano with the plateau-top (appearing next to the text as the example photo for Kevin's line) as well as very different black blast squashed tomato. Russ became even more impressed after smoking his new pipes! From the first bowl, each smoked cool and dry, staying lit with minimal effort.
In Russ' opinion, this is an indication of inspired engineering. When you find a great looking pipes that smokes remarkably well at an incredibly fair price. That is the pipe smoker's trifecta!
If you want to enjoy the experience of getting in on the ground floor, buying a piece from a carver who Russ predicts will become well-regarded very soon, you won't go wrong with one of Kevin's pipes.
