Obsidian Pipe Stem Oil isn’t a wax or a cleaner. Obsidian Pipe Stem Oil is specifically designed as a preventative to help keep your vulcanite, ebonite or Cumberland stems from oxidizing and help keep them looking newer for longer. In addition to conditioning and sealing the pores of the vulcanite, thus resulting in much less oxidation, Obsidian also contains small amounts of organic quality UVA/UVB protection. Unlike Olive oil, which some people use (and which will go rancid), it has no taste and is specifically designed for use with the rubber your pipe stem is made from! The product is a mix synthetic food grade oil, organic grade UVA/UVB inhibitors and some essential oils good for the skin on the lips!

Great product. Without knowing I had a vulcanite stem, I cleaned it with alcohol. I used vaseline, toothpaste, and olive oil to attempt to get the black shine back and to keep the horrible smell/taste away. These all worked okay, but results didn't last long.
I used this oil (directions are incredibly simple) and the results were very good, but not the original glossy shine. I anticipate using two drops every month or two. The bottle will last a long time.

Not much to add to the other comments except that my stems were in such bad shape I was forced to scrape away the build-up before applying the oil. (I might have soaked the stems in a solution of baking soda over night rather than scraping.)

It works! I just finished cleaning and shining all of my pipes vulcanite stems. This and a little elbow-grease made all of my stems look nearly new. How did I go 30 years without this stuff?

Boy a few drops of this, a bit of time, and the stem is beautiful again. I don't know what's in it, but I'm sure it's a military secret.

Works great on all types of stems. Not only does i make 'em look great but it make 'em feel great in my mouth. Cleans 'em up and makes the stem feel smooth and fresh. I highly recommend this product.

I use this occasionally after smoking to help keep my stems looking great. I've had it for at least 6 months now, and I think I still have most of the bottle left. Doesn't take much to do a good job

This oil is even better than I had hoped. It goes on very thick, needing only a tiny amount to coat the entire stem. Keeps stems looking brand new. Highly recommend.

It was a little hard to find, but Obsidian Stem Oil works well to keep vulcanite stems free of oxidation for a longer time.
