Blending - Perique Pipe Tobacco (by the ounce)
Rare and precious, this dark, fragrant condiment tobacco comes to us in wooden casks from St. James Parish, Louisiana, where it has been produced in time-honored fashion since the days when the natives pressed it in tree trunks. Use it sparingly in your blends for its distinctive cooked-fruit, musty, mushroom-like aroma and cool-smoking character.

It starts of kind of strong, but goes really well with viginia blends. You just have to wait a week or two.

This Perique (bptmcc44) is simply the best that is on the market...After all,AFAIK, it does come from McClelland... People always want to speak of the tin, or in this case the bag smell. I can not say, here in this review, what the smell reminds me of, but just give it your nose and see for yourself. I Love the smell AND the taste. I smoke it either straight or with small amounts of other top quality tobaccos blended in. One of my favorites is G&H Kendal Kentucky or as strange as it sounds, SG Fire Dance Flake. The combinations are great, but straight Perique is the most rewarding smoke, for me. I also dry the tobaccos out very dry. I find all of the bite goes away with this treatment.
A word of caution. The Blending - Pre-Granulated Perique Pipe Tobacco (by the ounce)bptalt608 is what I think comes from C&D, but I'm not sure about that, it just is like some I tried from that company. That tobacco can not be dried. I believe it is soaked in a PG/H20 solution... Not for me, but maybe you would like it.? It does smell GREAT! Sorry for the long winded review. This is my first review and I am very happy, not only with this company "Pipes and Cigars . com" , but with the good offerings found here. GREAT people to work with! FRESH tobacco!

Perique is paradox. Dark and dank, acrid flavor and aroma like a the sour mash leavings near a distillery. But mix a bit of Perique with your blend, moisten and let sit a few hours, and all its foulness vanishes. And your smoke is mellow and nicely married! That's the magic of Perique, and this one comes clean of "wood" and clumps...a perfect ribbon cut.

I love adding perique to weaker blends to spice them up or simply just to smoke straight. My sample is too wet at the moment to smoke, but I mixed it half and half with some cigar leaf and the mixture tastes amazing!
