AJ Fernandez Last Call Maduro
It's hard to recreate the smash success of AJ Fernandez Last Call Habano, but that didn't stop him from trying, and, frankly, around the office, we have a hard time declaring a winner between the original and AJ Fernandez Last Call Maduro.
Fundamentally, this is the same cigar as Last Call Habano. The only difference is the wrapper. This time around, it's a Nicaraguan-grown Broadleaf wrapper, fermented until it's the color of coffee. The Nicaraguan binder and long-fillers are carried over from the original, but with the addition of the wrapper, the profile changes a lot. The wrapper is folded over the foot of the cigar, giving you a burst of rich flavor on first light. There are notes of espresso and cocoa along with touches of black pepper and a deep sweetness. It was developed by AJ for himself as the last cigar of the day, and after having one toward the evening with an adult beverage, I can say that this is one heckuva way to unwind.
