New pipe smoker here. Been at it a month. This blend was pretty smooth, though I wasn't expecting the peppery hit. It was pleasant enough. For those who use tobacco as their vehicle to the perceptive powers of the human psyche, fine blends abound, indeed we seem to be somewhat spoiled for choice. Well here, shipmates, is one that you must try if you haven't before. Other reviewers have unjustly diminished the role of the Latakia in this exquisite, classically English mixture. The quality of the Virginias and the balance of the authentic formula - Virginias & Orientals with Latakia - results in what is for me the quintessential English experience. It's not the strongest, by far. But it's not weak by any definition, and darkens toward the end of the bowl. The Latakia is definitely the furthest forward, but balances joyously with the brightness of the Virginias. The orientals too are present, in just the right place to bring out the complexity of the Virginias and let you explore your capacity for identifying the bouquet that wafts up from your bowl. There are no added Burlies or Cavendish to lend the coveted sweetness to the room note; the mixture is pure English, and relies instead on the quality of the Virginias to make this remarkably acceptable to the ladies and other company, considering the strength of the mixture. I discovered this only recently, while searching for a replacement for my beloved Frog Morton, and I'm delighted by the discovery. If they were Scotches, the Frog would be Ardbeg, and Royalty Lagavulian. Davidoff is usually good stuff, and here they don't disappoint. This is my special occasion pipe, the good stuff I smoke to celebrate. Read Less
