La Unica
A handful of years before the cigar boom, Stanford Newman asked Carlos Fuente, Sr.,the head of Arturo Fuente to come up with a quality handmade premium cigar in bundles at an affordable price. Because of that discussion, in 1986, La Unica was born. For 24 years, it was one of the best "sleepers" on the market, and it was such a consistent seller that in 2010, it was given a facelift and now comes in boxes of 20.
La Unica is still made by Fuente, using either a smooth, blonde Connecticut Shade or a dark Connecticut Broadleaf capa, laid over a choice selection of Cuban-seed long-fillers from the Dominican Republic. They are subtle (or in the case of the Broadleaf version, mellow to medium-bodied) cigars that are great at any time of day.
